William & Mary Catt of Willingdon

William Catt, son of William and Catherine was baptised at Eastbourne, St Mary, on 10th November 1754.

Mary Mewett, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth, was baptised in Willingdon on 13th September 1747.

William Catt married Mary Mewett in Willingdon on 19th May 1777 and they had the following children baptised there:

William and Mary were both buried in Willingdon; Mary, aged 72, on 16th April 1820 and William, aged 73, on 25th February 1827.

    Harriett had been widowed before the 1841 census and at the 1861 census she was boarding with her son James, a butcher, and his family at 33 Cinque Ports Street. She died in 1862 by which time she would have been 84.

  • William married Sarah Pierce in Friston, her parish, on 27th May 1803 and they had two children baptised in Willingdon:

    William was a farm labourer and he and Sarah were in Willingdon in 1841. He was buried there, aged 67, on 3rd May 1846.

  • Mary married Samuel Hollebone in Willingdon on 29th January 1808, witnessed by William Catt, probably her father. They had 12 children baptised in Willingdon, four on the same day in 1824:

    Samuel was a carpenter, as was his son Zachariah at the 1841 census. Mary was buried, aged 59, in Willingdon on 31st October 1842.

  • John married Philadelphia Verral in Berwick on 26th December 1806 and they lived in Willingdon with their 10 children.

    John was a farm labourer in 1841 but by 1851 he was a coal -----? And they were living at Pipers Cottage which was near Pevensey church. With John and Ann were their widowed son Benjamin and their married son William and his family. Benjamin and William were both railway labourers. Ann died in 1859.
